One of England's test match grounds and the
headquarters of cricket's governing body, the
Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC), since 1788
when the MCC was formed following the folding
of the White Conduit Club. The ground is
named after Yorkshireman Thomas Lord
(1757-1832) who developed the first site at
Dorset Square in 1787. He moved the ground to
a field at North Bank, Regent's Park, in
1811, and in 1814 developed the ground at its
present site at St John's Wood. Lord's is
also the home of the Middlesex cricket club.
